Brian Wrhel, a longtime educator at Meadowlark Elementary, was arrested on July twenty-eighth following a months-long investigation that began when a school employee raised concerns about his classroom behavior. According to police reports, the inappropriate conduct started as what investigators described as "small things" in October two thousand twenty-four but escalated to daily touching of female students who approached his desk for help with schoolwork.
The desk's location in the back of the classroom allegedly provided cover for increasingly serious violations. Police reports detail disturbing allegations including that Wrhel unclipped a student's bra and placed his hands under clothing. The concerning pattern was first reported by a paraeducator on May sixth or eighth, prompting school officials to conduct their own review.
"An internal investigation was conducted prior to law enforcement notification," officials confirmed. Wrhel was placed on administrative leave May sixteenth, and Cheyenne Police began their formal investigation May twentieth.
The case took another serious turn when officers seized Wrhel's cell phone during his arrest. A search warrant granted for digital forensic examination uncovered what authorities called "recovered child sexual abuse material." Investigators noted "it appears that this material originated outside of the country."
Wrhel was initially charged with sexual abuse counts on July twenty-first before his arrest a week later. His bond was set at five hundred thousand dollars with strict conditions prohibiting any contact with minors or the school premises.
When contacted for comment, district officials stated simply, "The district does not have a statement."
The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full scope of the alleged crimes against the students entrusted to his care.
